  2. I’ve seen the listing of events or the 60th anniversary of the 1964 Fair. I’ve seen no mention of the 85th anniversary of the 1939 Fair. It’s a bit hard to historical grasp that we’re just fifteen years from the centenary of The World of Tomorrow. All of those spectacular gardens and fountains and breathtaking pavilions and, of course, the inspirational center with the Trylon and Perisphere are now nearly a century in the past. If New York fails to recognize the greatest world’s fair of all time as 2039 approaches, it would be nothing less than tragedy.

  4. I could picture this getting the same bum's rush from Moses as Jonathan Winters did.
  5. I never imagined that I, born with two left feet, would be a co-sponsor of a dance festival! I just wish I could be there to see it in person - sounds like it will be a fun day! https://www.qchron.com/editions/queenswide/power-of-dance-teaches-about-64-world-s-fair/article_42438c24-f571-5a36-a1da-7574e6a41f88.html
  6. Some interesting things noted in this view of the Jaycopter in 1965. The sign details were fun to read, but there were two A-frame buildings in the background. In 1964 they were labeled "Franksville" in large white letters across the sloping red roofs. Operated by "Worlds's Fair Franksville, Inc" it was a subsidiary of "Franksville of Texas". From what I can tell the company had high hopes of launching a chain of franchises across the country, but the general failure of the Lake Amusement Area saw an end to that. In 1965 the space was repurposed as "Astro Race" - something else to research!
  7. I love it when something new and unexpected urns up in a photo. Take this slide (processed June 1965) from a ride on the AMF Monorail for example. What was "Norby Walters Arabian Nights"? And who was Norby Walters anyway? Well, it seems Norby was a club owner in the NY area and had some success, but decided he could do better as a sports agent. That seemed to go well until he was convicted of threatening some of his clients. From what I can tell Norby, shall we say, loved to embellish the truth. In one article about "Arabian Nights" he indicated that Goldie Hawn worked for him at the Fair and he had her picture over the cash register. I believe Goldie was there in 1964 but the only time I can place Norby at the Fair was 1965. In another article he claimed "Arabian Nights" only ran for one night as it was too risqué and they shut him down. If anyone finds anything more, or anything definitive on this apparently very short-lived show please let us know!
  8. Thank you Jim, my parts of the Aquacade (lighting tower, my mothers wedding dress...so much. However, The most important things, my autograph collection and my ocean liner collection are fully intact. Their wedding anniversary, 67 years ago, was Sunday. I took photographs of their album for my brother who doesn't have them. I cleaned them up as best I could but my skills are not what they were.
  9. I’m sorry you are going through that loss, Eric. It’s more than theft. It’s a violation that can hurt for a long time. Nobody deserves that. Hang in there. Jim
  10. PS - these can be enlarged quite a bit. Here is the Hiroshima/Nagasaki display with the new Tori, cranes and lanterns - a few items coming yet:
  11. The editing software did a few strange things but I will live with them for now - so many other films to scan or re-scan! https://youtu.be/T3igDAseUTw
  12. Hi All, Here are some items I will be listing soon. If anyone has interest drop me a line at eklongo.1969@gmail.com. Thank you, Eric

  14. I was too until the "buyer" refused to pay his invoice! It is still available!
  15. Too bad nobody on the 1939-40 corporation said: “any chance you guys might want the Trylon and Perisphere? It’s a package deal.”
  16. They were shade structures for a picnic area. An odd remnant for sure! Especially the windvane - my guess is Budd said "Want the structures? It's a package deal." to avid the demolition costs.
  17. Thank you both. Some things are just gone and I have to accept that. My baby book, so many things from my life and old home and my parents. I almost went a little nuts actually. I will need to add another photo of the parlor - I forgot the 1939 NYWF rug in front!
  18. Why were those structures left standing after 1940 and for 25 years thereafter? Did the former Budd exhibit serve any particular purpose or did it remain as just a relic?
  19. Hi All, In honor of the anniversary I managed to finish my parlor display to share with you all 🙂 Much of what I moved with was stolen in storage, a LOT, all my stock, all my paintings, my paints, frames, linen, gold, brushes, lapis and ivory, and my phone, my backup hard drives and more. However, apart from a few things the 39/40 collection is intact. Enjoy! 1939/40 New York World's Fair, Hiroshima and Nagasaki on the table to the left. Another view:
