So what's left?

Recommended Posts

With the long sought Julimar Farms joining us today, I think now we have

seen at least one shot of all the pavilions and gardens.

As for detail, I'm doing a quick mental fly over of the fair grid, and I believe that leaves us with just

Continental Circus (virtually impossible due to it's short life and prohibition

of flash photography) and the Garden of Medication that we have yet to see

detailed pictures of. (a color shot of a Simmons Sleep alcove with the bed made would also be nice)

Any others?

The Garden of Medication never actually existed. It was renamed Atomedic Hospital.

I have a few unpublished pics of "Alice in Wonderland" at the Pepsi Cola / UNICEF display (Small World) and the Spanish Pavilion's Flamenco Show.

I'll post them here when I locate them in my vast file system.

Garden of Medication was once conceptually real?? I had no idea!!

Last year when I was giving the SiP tour with the

microphone, I made a blooper and called the "Garden of Meditation" the

Garden of Medication. Since then I affectionately call it that, but I never

knew there was supposed to be a real one!

Here's a few pictures from my collection that may not have been seen posted here. The Salvador Dali "Art in Jewels" exhibit was shown at the Spanish Pavilion for a very brief period during 1965. Also, the Carmen Amaya Flamenco Troupe was seen at the theater in the Spanish Pavilion. Alice and the Rabbit appeared at the Pepsi Cola / UNICEF "Small World".

Ray - I believe the Spanish pavilion was one of the few legit foreign exhibits at the Fair, as opposed to trade show exhibits, like the Swedish pavilion which was, as I recall, just an advertisement for Saab and Volvo - which I guess worked since I later acquired a 1961 Volvo and a 1958 Saab.

The very mention of "Small World" still gives me the heeby jeebies - those deranged puppets screeching out that tune- ARGH!!!

I wonder if It's a Small World is the most played song in the world, or do other songs like Beatles tunes get played more... worldwide?

Other than Happy Birthday, what song could be sung (or at least hummed) by more people than It's a Small World? Thinking about all of the people that have passed through all of the Disney parks and had that tune rammed into their heads, it has to be right up there with Happy Birthday.

Considering the Garden of Meditation is just feet away from the Long Island Expressway, I've never quite understood why they chose that name.

LOL, that's what I figured. I've driven by the Garden many times transitioning from the Van Wyck to the Long Island Expressway and could practically touch the trees.

Looks very calm, actually makes me thing this is a post fair shot! ;)

A few of these will be coming soon, Kevin. I'm working on some from Malaysia now and there are some nice interior shots. I'll start, though, with this exterior shot, as I can't recall seeing this view before.

malaysia.jpg

I also have some Rheingold interiors, and some Denmark interiors - I'll keep working on your list.

There is a topic here somewhere from a few years ago, on Ireland exteriors. Particularly how the tower changed between the two seasons, adding some windows. I was just looking the other day, and we have two or three interior photos of those windows, but until now I hadn't put two and two together to figure out that those are the very windows that were added between seasons.

Allstate / Macy's Leisurama? What's that? And where was it?

Here are the ones on Kevin's list that I don't recall EVER seeing an interior picture (besides Allstate / Macy's).

Dynamic Maturity

Rheingold (but Bill says he has some now)

U.S. Post Office

2,000 Tribes- we have some pictures of a mural that was on an interior wall, but other than that zilch

Guinea

Eastern Airlines

Greyhound

National Maritime Union

You didn't list the Minnesota Pavilion. I don't have any interiors of that one.

Also, interiors of the Dick Button Ice Show are pretty much non-existant. Do we have any? I have two or three artworks showing particular scenes in the show, but I don't remember ever seeing any photos.

Continental Circus- exteriors yes, interiors no.

Also, no 1965 interiors of the Carnival Pavilion, which had been the Texas Music Hall in 1964.

No interiors of the covered "dock" leading to the Santa Maria. It was supposedly filled with exhibits.

I don't think we have any interiors of the Montana Centennial Train. One car in the train was an open-sided gift shop and I think we have that... but nothing of the exhibit cars.

I don't think we have any 1965 interiors of the United Nations Pavilion, which had been the Sierra Leone Pavilion in '64.

Sinclair interiors- we have two photos of exhibit panels, but nothing that shows the interior space, people walking by, etc.

The Clay Cole Revue in the Aquacade. Good luck with that one- it was only open a week or so!

American-Israel- we have some really good interior photos on a set of postcards

Berlin- we have an interior exhibit map, one interior photo in a pamphlet, and two interior press photos

Caribbean- several good interiors. Keep in mind that the sides of the building were open to let the breeze come through.

Central America & Panama- 3 good interior photos

Denmark - 11 of them!

Greece- several

Sermons from Science- 1 press photo

Sudan- one interior color slide, plus a postcard showing the Black Madonna exhibit.

Venezuela- one black & white showing President Johnson inside the building

Illinois- we have a few

Hertz- Mike Kraus has a really good one!

Hawaii- plenty of interior photos of the show in the Aloha Theater

Although we have some interiors in the Better Living Center, there are more exhibits that we DON'T have than we do have.

I'd like to see the Arnold Palmer driving range, and the Frisbee demonstration area.
