The World Famous PTU Holiday Thread

Recommended Posts

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house

Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,

In hopes that a 2004 NYWF Commemorative Calendar soon would be there;

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of Bel-Gem waffles danced in their heads;

And mamma in her Arlington feather hat, and I in my souvenir beret cap,

Had just settled down for a long dreamy 'dark ride' nap,

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from my Simmons Rest Alcove to see what was the matter.

Away to the porthole I flew like a Jaycopter,

Tore open the fiberglass expecting a robber.

The moon reflecting down on the Lake Meadow

Gave the lustre of the Jordan Pavilion to objects below,

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But a miniature Skyride, and a giant Unisphere,

With a little old guide, whose I.D. was a cinch,

I knew in a moment it must be da'Bench.

More rapid than eagles his cohorts they came,

And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

"Now, MARY ELLEN! now, MIKE! now, ROSE and HOODLOCKER!

On, VINNIE! on MONORAIL! on, LIZ, DOUG and COTTER!

To the top of Giant Tire! to the flowery Main Mall!

Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the push brooms fly,

Cast by the Rocket Thrower, shot to the sky,

So up to Small World the cohorts they flew,

With an Escorter full of landfill, and a Glide-a-Ride too.

And then, in an offical Fair Swiss Timing second, I heard on the roof

The scratching and growling of something uncouth.

As I drew in my hand, and was turning around,

Down the chimney da'Bench came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, both his shoes and his duds,

And his clothes were all tarnished with pizza and beer suds;

A bundle of landfill he'd flung on his back,

And he looked like an eBayer just selling on his Mac.

His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!

His cheeks like Texas Can-Can Dancers , his nose like a jar of Fair souvenir jelly!

His necktie was a souvenir Fair bow,

And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;

The slice of Mastro pizza he held tight in his teeth,

And pepperoni stains circled his head like a wreath;

He had a broad face and a little round belly,

That shook, when he laughed like Emmett Kelly.

He was chubby and plump, sort of like myself,

And I laughed when I saw him, he wasn't an elf;

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,

Soon gave me to ask 'Is Bob Moses dead?';

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,

To post greetings to PTU, not stopping to lurk,

And before I could ask 'do you suppose...',

He fired up the jets on his Bell Rocket Belt and rose;

He sprang to his Glide-a-Ride, to Larry gave a whistle,

And away they all flew like a Science Park missile.

But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,

"HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GREAT PTU GOOD-NIGHT!"

Loved it, Randy!

And, now I have my first NYWF snow globe!

Very cool. What did you have to go through to construct that animation?

That is great Randy! It ranks right up there with Frank's Unisphere drink recipe. Frank has not posted in a long time but it was a classic.

The idea is for youse guys to post holiday-related stuff here too.

Simple, cute, silly, charming, complex, makes no difference- bring it on! biggrin.gif

How about somebody add at least one contribution to this thread every day between now and Christmas? You lurkers too.

For instance, the annual notice that World's Fair Christmas music is now playing on K2US.

Or a Photoshop picture of a Christmas tree decorated with World's Fair landfill ornaments! Or Christmas Greetings Courtesy of Mastro Pizza.

Or a simple Merry Christmas everybody is great too...

I'll give it a try:

Dashing past the cars, in a blue subway train, to the meadow we go, laughing all the way HA HA HA. Expressway is packed all day, making our spirits a' fright, what fun it is to stand and wait, we'll be at the Unisphere by night! Ohhhhhh...Jingle Bells QMA smells, oh god this is just a pain, I never got to ride that "Glide-A-Ride" and am going in a crazeeeee ay! Jingle Bells, blah blah blah, something something, hoorayyyy, I took a trip to the park and back, and it started from far away!

Encore smile.gif

Happy Holidays PTUers!!!

Here is my holiday contribution. I hope everyone enjoys health, happiness and prosperity through the season and coming year.

It’ a beautiful snowy day in Flushing, USA but it’s between years of the Fair and there is nobody there so

I’m dreaming of a World’s Fair Christmas

Just like the ones I used to know

Where the Unisphere glistens and children listen

To “it’s a small World” in the snow

I’m dreaming of a World’s Fair Christmas

In P-T-U posts that I write

I hope the Monorail runs all night

And may 1965 be bright

Mary Ellen, Bing (Crosby) and Irving (Berlin) say your lyrics are better than theirs. I'm sure they're singin' it somewhere up there in the clouds right now!

Great job.

Mitch and Bill I like yours too!

Keep 'em comin' folks! HO HO HO!

Say Bill, you know the Sherman Brothers. They could probably whip out a catchy PTU holiday tune in no time at all, couldn't they? biggrin.gif Bill could put it on the PTU server as background music whenever you go to the PTU forums...at least during the holiday season...

Cool- a pizza tree!

I haven't had lunch yet- makes me hungry.

Vinnie, I wonder if your dad sent out anything greetings-wise to his franchisees at Christmas time?

Mary Ellen do you have any "Bamboo Man" Christmas cards?

Yep, you can own it later this week.

All you gotta do is win the bidding!

Hey Randy T.,

How about keeping THIS thread for the creative stuff you proposed at the beginning, and put the landfill elsewhere?

Fun stuff, everybody.

Keep posting those holiday spoofs!
