1964 NYWF Forever

Opening Day NYWF April 30, 1939- 79 years ago today!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone:

Today marks the 79th anniversary of the opening of the 1939/40 New York World's Fair.  Today also is the 229th anniversary of George Washington's Inauguration as our First President.  Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a time machine and go back and witness both of these events first hand???  Just thought I would get the conversation started on this subject.

Also, NBC's first officially public television broadcast, from the Fair.

Several members, myself included, are still working on perfecting that time machine.

Also opening day of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition (St. Louis, 1904).

When we get that time machine, you can also "meet me in St. Louis"

That was the day when FDR told a Depression weary nation that "our wagon is hitched to a star," as he spoke to opening day crowds from the front of the Federal Building.
