Introduce myself and Philatelic exhibitions

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I wrote this topic to present myself. I'm a researcher from the Universidad de Buenos Aires Argentina. I'm trying to found information about philatelic exhibitions and postal pavillions at World Fairs.

Congratulations for the forum!

Great question Monica. Welcome to this board!

There are people here with expertise on quite a few different World's Fairs and expositions.

Quite a few know a lot about the World's Fair in New York in 1964-65.

Many pavilions sold stamps from their country in their gift shop. A very few also had a 'philatelic counter'.

The Vatican pavilion in '64-65 had an interesting thing going- a vending machine sold postcards and stamps, and the buyer could address a postcard to themselves, put it in the slot, and Alitalia would fly it to Rome, cancel it in the Vatican City post office, and mail it to the buyer's home address. Instant souvenir.

Many countries, including the Vatican, issued stamps in honor of World's Fairs. Some of them had an official "First Day of Sale" ceremony at the World's Fair, with speeches by dignitaries. These stamps are quite collectible- particularly for World's Fairs in the early 20th century or late 19th century. Really they're ALL collectible. :)

Thank you Randy!

I'm specially interested in philatellic exhibitions or postage stamps issues from World's Fairs in the early 20th century or late 19th century.

Best Regards!

Hi there

Here's some information on the Australia Post Pavilion at Brisbane Australia's World Expo '88.

The Honourable Barbara Stone MP, Queensland Government member for Springwood, was an attendant for Australia Post at the Expo. You might like to contact her for further information.

With best regards
