Kevin, this is in your neck of the woods.

1913 Gasco Building

So far I haven't found anything that looks like this building in vintage photos from the 1905 Lewis & Clark Expo in Portland.

Maybe you can track down where this buildng is today, and whether it was really at the expo in 1905.

Somewhat off topic, but that's incredible architecture for a 104 year old building. We all know how World's Fair's love to showcase architecture!!

Hi Randy,

There are a few structures from the 1905 expo still standing in Portland (like the Hotel Fairmount), but that particular building sure doesn't look familiar to me either...

I tried taking this map of the fairgrounds...

... and overlaying it onto a satellite image of the fairgrounds area as it is today to try to find some possible "targets" to investigate, but nothing really stands out:

I know that Guild's Lake was filled in not too long after the fair, and that most of the area is used for industrial and warehousing purposes today. There were a few structures that were also moved to other locations in Portland, but that one doesn't look like a building that would easily be relocated.

I'll keep digging...

Kevin

PS - Here's a photo of the Hotel Fairmount taken at the corner of NW Upshur St. and NW 26th Ave, along with small plaque noting it's LCCE history:

I found it! Unfortunately, it's not a 1905 LCCE structure - it's the old Portland Gas and Coke Company (Gasco) building built in 1913. It's located a couple of miles northwest of the old fairgrounds...

The Gasco site also a superfund cleanup site as well...

Great detective work, Kevin. That's a creepy looking wreck of a building. If Hollywood ever needs a building to fill in for a lunatic asylum it sure would fit the bill.

Hi. I actually took that photo of that building. I didn't know for certain if it was a part of the world's fair in Portland - that was what a friend told me.

I just saw the post that it's not actually part of the fair. Thanks for sharing the information. I'll be sure to pass it on. :)
