Does anyone know why Mcdonalds USA has not tried to go looking for the Mcbarge and to restore the floating Mcdonalds ship now dumped somewhere near some oil refineries in Burnaby?

The story is, McDonald's 'shopped' the idea of using their barge McD's restaurant that could be moved seasonally to several cities up and down the west coast, but no town was willing to make docking space available.

Nick, you could probably have it for a dollar nighty eight, provided you figure out how to tow it down under, and you could open your own shrimp on the barbie floating restaurant. Be sure to invite us all to the grand opening.

For those of you not familiar with the (in)famous McBarge, here it is during the Expo days:

It's sort of amazing that it has been left rusting away up a creek all these years.

I never heard of the floating McDonalds before ...very interesting. Here's a link to a blog that says it is anchored in Burnaby, British Columbia. It shows 5 pictures of the barge (rusting away) taken in Feb., 2007.

Anyone think we should alert Mcdonalds that the ship still exists and is worth saving? Any suggestions.

I think all PTUers should pitch in to buy it and convert it into a Fair Museum! (With a cafe on the side ofcourse, to make use of the facilities!) We could tour it around the nation using a piece of Far history to promote Fair history! :)

McBarge in the news today:
CTV News: Mission welcomes McBarge revival project

Article with video. The video also has a quick bit on the Edgewater Casino - which is located in the old Expo 86 BC Pavilion.

Hopefully the plans will work out and they'll save the poor old McBarge. Thanks for the new info.
