Inside the TENT OF TOMORROW

Recommended Posts

After much research and reevaluation, I have completed my final version of the Mezzanine map. Sadly, I lost a lot of pictures last month with my old computer, so I need a volunteer to re send me the ones missing from the original version of the map. Those being the Schweizer glider and the Texaco info kiosk. I do hope everyone enjoys the new mezzanine map! jS

post-3769-1211630525_thumb.jpgI was looking at some VIP deck shots, and this mezzanine pic shows an imprint of something that was there. Jason maybe you can find out if anything was there that matched that imprint...........Johnny

Johnny,

Was that bullseye circle the Texaco circle during the fair?

The imprint matches the path of the Highway of tomorrow. It's amazing that there is any imprint left at all! If you follow the path, the section at the bottom was the Governor's office, the far left (of the path, not the picture) was the ending of the Audit and Control, and the larger area closer to the inner rail was the State Assembly exhibits. The area across from State assembly was the Forestry exhibit, and the section with the puddle was either Agriculture or Jackson and Perkins roses.

Randy- can you help me with the pictures of the Texaco Kiosk and the Schweizer glider? I can't find the threads that had them posted. Perhaps you have them stored in your porta drive? Thanks in advance~ J

Nice find- as Jason said, you have discovered a legacy of the meandering "road" that wound through the exhibits.

Thanks Randy! You can almost make out what animals are in the cages in that bottom shot!

Image restored! I didn't realize that when I moved my photobucket pics all of my images here were erased from existence. Anyone still have the little cards I gave out with this picture at the SIP? I actually have a little stack of them buried in a miniature time capsule in FMCP in a secret location. It is scheduled to be extracted on June 22, 2108. See ya all there! :)

Hello,

I recently scanned some old family slides. One of the pictures showed my grandfather with the Schweizer Glider. After some Google searching I realized he was at the World's Fair and found this posting. I have uploaded the image to flickr here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/maxgrieshaber/8417861331/sizes/l/in/set-72157632722912366/

Thank you for creating the map of the Tent of Tomorrow. Does anyone know where the glider ended up?

From,

Max

Hi, Max. I'm glad you found us. That's a great picture.

I think I recall hearing that the glider ended up somewhere in the Finger Lakes area.

Nice picture! It's not often that we see a picture taken close enough to see the maze of cables that kept the glider from 'flying away' on windy days.

I just noticed this thread. It is possible that glider is at the National Soaring Museum in Harris Hill near Elmira, NY. It is devoted to gliders and what they call "motorless flight."

The registration number on the World's Fair glider was N1964.

Unfortunately the museum's collection includes several 1964 Schweizers, but not with that registration number.
