'39 NYWF uniform

This one looks like a gray version of the '64-65 Greyhound driver uniform.

What kind of job did people have who wore this in '39?

I don't know, but I'd guess because an exhibit is identified (America at Home) this was probably worn by someone connected with that particualr exhibit - an usher, ticket-taker, etc. I know it was traditional for movie and hotel ushers of the age to wear military-looking uniforms.

I agree that it is a guide uniform. I have a a Trylon and Perisphere logo patch worn by these Guides on their jackets.
