Sailboat

Recommended Posts

I think I've seen a postcard showing an Elco yacht at the '39-40 World's Fair (a "dry land" display of the boat), but what would this sailboat be connected to? Was there some kind of marina exhibit similar to the World's Fair Marina at the '64-65 Fair?

I found this information on an Elco Yacht at the RCA Pavilion at the 1939-40 NYWF.

Hi,

while I do have a few photographs of the 1939 RCA sailboat display it was very rarely photographed from what I have seen in the last 15 years.

Best,

Magikbilly

I thought the Elco yacht was a motorboat, not a sailboat. The postcard picture shown in the link above doesn't look like a sailboat. In fact I thought I heard that the 'platform', with roots in intended sales to the wealthy, evolved into the famous Elco high speed PT boat for the U.S. Navy, which John F. Kennedy skippered in the Solomon Islands and became a war hero.

Hi,

it was a 53 ft motor yacht that was there in a basin of water to demonstrate the safety provided by radio and other communication at sea.

Best,

Billy
