Bill Cotter, May 5 in The 1939-40 New York World's Fair
But not a typical snapshot either - what was the source?
One of the best aspects of Turner Classic Movies is the never ending reminder of the fact that for much of the 20th Century women wore hats. Often remarkably imaginative but almost always a necessity, a woman's hat was a vital part of her wardrobe. I watched Gene Tierney dancing with Vincent Price while wearing an elegant hat in the 1944 film, Laura. 1939 was about mid-point in the era of great hats for women. This photograph captures just such a hat.
I agree, Jim. It's not just the hats- it's the entire culture of the time. I'm just starting to explore how to stream even more classic-era movies than TCM offers.
