Looking for info on Jamaica and ska at 1964 World's Fair

Recommended Posts

Hi all! My name is Heather Augustyn and I am doing some research on Jamaica and the 1964 World's Fair. They debuted their national music and dance, the ska, at the Singer Bowl with Millie Small at the fair. There were a number of other events surrounding the promotion of their national music and dance, including performances by a number of other Jamaican musicians, and I am hoping that anyone with any memories of this can contact me. I am at haugustyn@yahoo.com. Thank you!

I have zero knowledge now and fewer personal memories of ska at the Fair.

However shortly afterward I developed my own interest in ska, (also courtesy of Millie Small) calypso, and soca, and as an adult traveled the Caribbean and now live in Miami.

Sorry I can’t help but would love to see whatever you came up with so far.
