Who doesn't love trains?

A young boy looks ready to head out on the main line as he looks out from the cab of Norfolk & Western #1206. Part of the railroad exhibit at the Fair. Scanned from an original negative.

Since some people have enjoyed the train pictures, here's my favorite one from the 1939-40 New York World's Fair. This is the Pennsylvania Railroad S-1, designed by Raymond Loewy, the same man behind the classic Coke bottle. It was the longest and heaviest rigid frame reciprocating steam locomotive ever built. It was demonstrated at the Fair running under steam on a set of rollers, with guests standing next to the roaring beast. I can't imagine being able to do this today. Scanned from an original negative.
