The Fair that might have been

Recommended Posts

This view of the Lunar Fountain area was taken in May 1964. I couldn't help but think how even more amazing the Fair would have been if empty plots like this one had been rented out.

It could have been, if not for the fight between Moses and the BIE.  Of course. for someone like me, with 6 days divided between the fair and the city, it would be impossible to see it all anyway. It was impossible for me to see everything that WAS there. Nevertheless, I'd have to echo Mae West's sentiment: "Too much of a good thing is...wonderful!"

This space was rented out. The french pavilion was to have been built here. Ground was broken, but construction did not get far as funds ran out. There is a ground breaking booklet that shows the three structures that were to be built. Two looking a little like a Trylon and Persisphere look alike.  Images were included  in the world's fair puzzle and corporation flyers that showed the drawn aerial views of the fair from over the Bell System pavilion.
