The question has come up on my transit blog about the disposition of the buses used by Greyhound to transport visitors at A Century of Progress.  Someone has a theory that the buses, or at least some of them, were sold to the Bowen Motor Coach Company in Texas for use at the Texas Centennial Exposition in 1936.  Photos of the buses used there look quite similar to Chicago's with the addition of some sheet metal.

The timing is right, at least.  Texas would have been looking for such buses in 1935, right at the time Chicago had just finished using theirs.  But of course, that does not prove it really happened that way.

After all, the resemblance between the Texas and Chicago buses may simply mean they were both built by GM within a few years of each other.  The buses used at the New York World's Fair were different, and I haven't researched the ones used at other fairs such as Cleveland's.

The "trailer" at least looks like a mod of the same streamliner truck/trailer combo that White was exhibiting right there at the Great Lakes Expo.

The grill on those Cleveland buses reminds me of the Packards of the era.... probably not coincidental, as that would equate the Whites with a perceived luxury brand.

At least four of the Greyhound 1933 World's Fair buses ended up at the House of David community in Benton Harbor, Michigan.  There is a House of David steamship postcard that shows four of the buses lined up picking up passengers.  They still say "World's Fair" on them and look like they have a similar paint scheme.  Check out ebay completed auctions for House of David steamship to see the images.

Thanks!  Seems likely that the Texas Exposition didn't need all the Chicago buses, since it was a smaller fair.  Interesting that the postcard refers to "Enders Greyhound Lines."  Was this a subsidiary of Greyhound proper, or an independent company?
