hawaii-tower.jpg

July 1964

Complete views of that tower are hard to find due to the Monorail track.

And no, I couldn't read the yellow sign on the support pylon.

The Nerveless Nocks were performing nearby. Maybe.....

As far as I could make it the sign said something was open near the Monorail. The picture could be a shop interior.

Maybe the fine print says "posted by a time traveler to perplex Bill C."

Well yes, that *is* a distinct possibility... LOL

Okay, Bill, how about the tan sign to the left of the yellow poster with the "5" on it? Can you read that?

I suspect that's a sign for the 5 Volcano Restaurant.

Yeah, I can make out the word "volcano" under the numeral "5" so it must be the 5 Volcano Restaurant.

Have we seen many photos of the inside of that pavilion? None stand out in my memory.

We have photos of the inside of the Aloha Theater, but pictures of the other building interiors are almost zilch.

Yes, that sign was for the Volcano restaurant.

I just scanned a few Hawaii interiors last week. I'm not sure when I'll get to them for restoration but will post them when I do.

I seem to recall a shot of a color TV in the lobby, one of the many scattered around by RCA - now was that on a disc or somewhere on this site???

Any idea what became of the sculpture in the first photo?

Wayne, I think the photo of that particular TV was in the Florida pavilion.

The best Hawaii Pavilion interior views we have are a set of commercial slides published by United Airlines. They were heavily promoting travel to Hawaii at the time (on their airline of course... )

I think Bill might have the whole UA set on one of his CDs.

Okay, I've found a reference that says it's a Ku gate sculpture by Ed Brownlee.

Just found this photo inside the gift shop area at the Hawaii Pavilion. Somebody had just bought that black velvet artwork in the gift shop... and their family still has it today.

Another photo inside the 5 Volcanos Restaurant- said to be enjoying a '5 Volcano Rum Punch'. I'll bet it packed a wallop... LOL

I'm finding some of these on a "Tiki Archeology" website.

Hopefully fixed, but the board's bb tags seem to be having some issues....

Nope, not fixed. It works for one or two views, then shuts down.

Bill, when you get home can you take a look, and see if you can figure out what's going on with the bb tags? img and /img

I'm not sure what happened to your photos, Randy. I had seen the one with folks seated at a table just fine, now all I see is part of an address to it. Let me try to imbed it here and see what happens.

Looks ok to me. Anyone else see it or not? I'll go in and try to fix those broken links now as well.
