This is one of those staged studio photo areas that were common at World's Fairs and the big Expos in the first half of the 20th century. This particular one was at the 1931 French Colonial Exposition in Paris.

If we were to give these captions, we might start out with....

"Cute"

...then we proceed to "Two Wild & Crazy Gals having a good time at the Expo"

...and finally we come to "Totally unsound aerodynamically and unsafe at any altitude" :D

Ever wonder what happens to stuff like this when Expos close? Some stuff gets recycled. This Expo was in 1931.

I just came across this. The Germans didn't invade until 1940. It might be the same airplane with minor updates, and of course a Paris backdrop replacing the Expo backdrop.
