I have tried to avoid flying with miscellaneous electronic gear, but if no-one else can bring the essentials, I will volunteer to invite inspection.

Hi Guys. Yep, I'm still willing to ship it down there! I checked the fuse. Looks good. I didn't do anything past red to positive, black to negative on the 12V converter. Didn't want to do anything bad to it.

Would be awesome to get it working!

***Don't forget to bring a tape recorder to "capture" the tune...

No one else with tools?

Also, how about someone with a camcorder to capture the wheel action with the sound?

Randy,

Did you say what brand/model of scanner you got? How do you like it? I am thinking of possibly replacing my HP sometime (may be forced to if some future Windows update makes the drivers totally incompatible).

Flatbed scanner: Microtek 4900- ('adequate', but not top-of-the-line)

Film Scanner: Nikon Coolscan V

I can bring a camcorder on December 4th.

I can bring some electrician tools which I inherited but know little about.

I do have a voltmeter/ multimeter which I can bring too.

You guys will have to supply the brains- my experience is just about limited to needle nose pliers and duct tape (which usually ends up stuck to my elbow and my left ear).

...  And Larry, if you want to cruise over from Arizona, maybe we could "reunite you" with the Greyhound musical horn after four decades!

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Gee, Randy, I wish that event had occurred over the summer when I was out there (and met again with the great Ray Dashner).

Greyhound horn: quack quack quack, quack quack quack quack quack quack quack!

I DON'T think I have a small speaker though- which was mentioned by Mathew would be needed.  Any of you other guys have a small speaker?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I'm briknging a couple of small speakers, a VOM, and a handful of clip leads. Went through the Xray without a comment (guess they only worry about pointy things or bulky masses). See you on Saturday!

I got the box in the mail from Mathew yesterday. He said he put a speaker in there and the plug too, along with the DuKane unit. I'll wait and we can open the box on Saturday, so I don't misplace anything.

This SiLA is getting exciting.. even from way over here in New England.

I hope somebody brings their new DuKane Wireless Network Satellite Uplink Hub so that you guys can give us a live feed when you get that horn a-quackin'!

WE DID IT!

We got the DuKane box playing today.

Now, have to find out how to post a couple of large files: Quicktime movies with sound, about 6 MByte each.

If they won't fit here, I can post on my personal site in a couple of days.

****************AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!***********************

I'm so happy it worked out. Just got back from the SF DECO SHOW a few hours ago. It was "ok". Wish I was down in L.A. with you guys. It felt like we just gave birth!!! to a greyhound!!!

It's probably too late to ask, but maybe someone could "mark" or make a diagram so I can hook it up easier when I get the box back. WOW, I'm relieved, excited, exhausted and happy...

Mathew:

Trying to recall everything - perhaps Randy L can add or correct:

1) Plus 12 volts to red, ground (minus) to black. Note - we used Robert Yowell's car battery. Probably need a fairly hefty 12 volt supply to run this from the wall current. Didn't think to try measuring the current, but my little meter might not have handled it anyway.

2) jumpered the fuse holder (there is something wrong with the holder or the cap, or maybe the wrong length fuse, but it doesn't make contact).

3) the relay underneath the bottom starts everything, but just connecting the coil with jumper leads didn't seem to work, so I gave Randy a pen to push on it gently - this worked, although the motor was just barely budging (Randy T. observed this, and I decided to give the wiper block a push). Just then, the motor started, so I don't know if the push helped or not. Then it worked repeatedly.

We speculated about what the light is for - it definitely looks like a modification, but it's hard to see if it shines on some sort of sensor or what.

-Anybody else who can remember some details?

----------------

I was just about willing to stay overnight to work on the tuning - but you can have that fun (and Robert can keep peace with his neighbors).

Mathew, Thanks a million for sharing this with us!

See http://www.bretl.com for the movies of it in operation.

Just GREAT stuff!

Thanks for posting those movies, Wayne!

Now I know how jealous everybody else feels when we report on our get-togethers in FMCP and do things like walk the map and go up on the roof of the Port Authority building.

I'm so glad you guys had a biggie to make SiLA #1 so memorable!

Wish I was there.

Saturday in Los Angeles.

Kind of a stepchild of some original excursion get-together things back at the World's Fair site in New York which were dubbed 'Saturday in the Park' or SiP.

Us West Coast exiles always felt kind of envious that we didn't have a similar opportunity to convene, and massive movement all the way back to NYC was usually cost prohibitive, but now we have done our own!. (and hope to again, in the not too distant future). Hopefully others from back in Eastern territories can join us, kind of like Randy L. and Wayne did this time! (and you too, since the Bay Area is obviously just a northern 'annex' territory of the greater Los Angeles area- although we sometimes don't want to claim the 'Frisco-ites' as being even remotely kin. )

Hey, San Francisco had a couple of World's Fairs too- so there's SOMETHING in common--

Actually, we want you to bring down that big old vintage car to show us next time, maybe with that DuKane horn mounted in it and working!

We have hopes at some point in the future to entice Curtis and Terri to come out to do a 'west coast premier' of their NYWF documentary here in 'Greater Hollywood'.

Who knows, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas might show up. You never know who you're gonna run in to out here!

Saturday in Los Angeles.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

If we changed "Saturday in...." to "Stroll in...." it could be any day of the week.
