Here are a few things I've done over the years that IMO were worthwhile:

Transit (Subway) Museum
Tour of Radio City
Motion Picture Museum (Astoria)
Cooper-Hewitt
Guggenheim
Ellis Island
Financial District/South Ferry
The Rock
Empire State
Macy's (World's Largest Store!)
MCNY
Hudson Piers
Brooklyn Bridge
South Street Seaport

When you run out of things to do, you might try the mafia tour, or visit their museum:

Haven't done that one - have done the police museum and the immigrant/tenement museum (not sure I'm remembering the name right) - tours a tenement built around civil war time - amazing how the wood floors have sagged in 150 years, but more amazing how it was subdivided and then sometimes an internal window was added so the inner apartment could get some natural light.

NYC has more museums of various kinds than one could imagine, and I am a museum freak, so thanks again, guys, and post any more you think of.

Wayne, I don't know if I can do 2 days in a row. Remember my feet got pretty worn out the last time. I do intend to drive in this time so that may make a difference as I could move the car from one side of the park to another. That may make it possible to do 2 days, I just have to see how it goes. Anticipation....

In order to get more definite about it:

Let's meet at 9:30 am, Saturday, June 25 at Gotham plaza.
Weather date: Sunday June 26

Morning: Walk the park, comparing pictures of "then" to now - industrial and international/state area, back to Gotham Plaza and the subway
Lunch: Take the subway to the "WF Burger King"
Afternoon:
Subway back to FMCP
Slow down and try to save ourfeet
Transportation area - more "then" pix
Dinner: Pines at Holiday Inn (longer walk there, but then shorter to subway) or Parkside (shorter walk there, and close to Lemon Ice King, but probably a long wait and pricier, and longer walk back to subway)

Who's in?

Optional Sunday June 26:
Morning: For those who really like to walk: Meet 10:00 am Gotham Plaza, walk to Lake Amusement area
Lunch TBD - Anyone know a place to grab a bite on the way up towards the subway and 111th?
Afternoon Louis Armstrong house 107th St N of 37th Ave - meet there 1:30 pm (open Noon - 5:00 pm)
Nearest subway stop 111th or 103rd

Input from the "out of shape" guy:

After the Burger King, a few bucks pooled from each of you would whisk you in a taxi directly to the Underground Home or Top of the Fair, or Helldrivers entrances to the park. Feet saved!

Doug, thanks for the suggestion. We will miss you when we find the underground home. <grin>

By the way, I'm planning ot spend a couple of other days at a couple of aviation museums further out on Long Island (Garden City and Farmingdale) , and it appears a rental car is the only reasonable transport. Comments anyone?

You will definitely need a car to get anywhere on Long Island, especially the museums. The Long Island Rail Road is great for commuters but after that it's tough to get around.

It's getting closer!

I have printed out 60 or 70 8x10s of Bill Cotter's photos, will have them in a genuine NYWF vinyl shoulder bag so we can pull them out and see what stood where.

9:30 am, Saturday, June 25 at Gotham plaza.
Weather date: Sunday June 26

Johnny, will there be any paint parties between June 22 and July 3?
