I got hooked on the 1939/40 New York World's Fair while doing research for a Master's in American Culture about 10 years ago. I've been collecting items from that fair ever since. During my studies, I wrote a couple articles for the Fair News of the old WFCS on the World's Fair relics from 1939 and 1964 that my husband and I discovered in our travels around the U.S, and now I'm involved with the new World's Fair Historical Association. After a serious illness 2 years ago, I changed my priorities so I have more time to devote to my "hobby." I've put together a photo album for my Facebook page that contains pictures and information on the items related to the 1939 Fair that we've found in different locations, and I hope to keep adding to that. I'm also planning to start a blog soon to share some of the extensive information and stories I've collected about the Fair, particularly in regard to some of the fun and humorous stories such as those covered in the daily Fair News that you don't usually find in most scholarly works on the Fair. I'm always happy to hear from other Fair fanatics and will be glad to try and help with any questions or research queries you might have. If you want to check out my photos, look on Facebook under Cathy Scibelli, you'll find my picture bears a striking resemblance to Elektro! ;-)

Hi, Cathy, and welcome! I look forward to anything you can share with us about the fair. Do you have any way to share it with those of us not on Facebook?

Welcome, Cathy! I share your 39 NYWF fanaticism-- in fact, that's what first brought me to this site over six years ago. I'm proud to be a part of PTU/WFC-- this place is a literal treasure trove of information on our shared favorite fair and many, many others. My wife and I also have an extensive collection of memorabilia from the World of Tomorrow (we got engaged at the site) and would love to compare notes & trade pics. Meanwhile, have fun poking around through our archives-- but make sure you've got LOTS of time! :)

Yes, welcome Cathy indeed! You'll find a LOT of interesting information/discussions here at the board. And, there's a lot of well-informed folks here who are always happy to help answer (or try to answer) questions. Glad you found this community! P.S. I'm enjoying your Facebook photos and look forward to seeing more.

Thanks Bill! My Facebook photo album on the 1939 relics should be accessible to anyone surfing that site, even if you're not a member. But one of the projects on my "To Do" lists for this year is to start a blog with stories and photos, so stay tuned for that. Also, as time allows I'll post on this site as well.
And your books in the Images of America series on both the 1939 and 1964 Fairs have helped fuel my passion for studying and collecting this fascinating history. So I thank you for the hours of enjoyment....however, I can't say that my Budget is too fond of you!

Not ruined, enriched! Well, intellectually and emotionally at least, if not financially! :-D

And thank you to Eric, Glen and Trey for your warm welcomes! It's nice to find fellow fanatics to hang out with here! Trey, I love that you got engaged at the World's Fair site, what a wonderful, special way to create a lasting memory of that important day in your life. And Eric, love the slide you posted! My husband and I love touristy "photo ops," we've been known to drive halfway across the country to get a picture at some weird site or other. I only wish that Kodak Photo Op from the '39 Fair was still around today, how I would love to have a photo like that for my collection! Glen--I'll definitely be adding more photos to my Facebook site as I have time, so check back now and then....Cathy

Hi Cathy, I would be very interested to see your Facebook pages but can't seem to find you, any chance of putting a direct link here? You will see my questions in the introductions section about Little Miracle Town Midgets.
Thanks. Anything you have on Fred Ropers Wonder Midgets much appreciated. I am hoping to contact relatives of the troupe. We used to have three films from the fair but my mother 'threw them out'! when she moved...tragedy. Dalimermaid
