Hello All, My name is Jeff Ford, and I am new to the forum. My fascination with World's Fairs, or EXPOs, began around five years ago. I have made some earlier post under the topic of "looking for World's Fair films". The strange and twisting events that brought the continued presence of World's Fairs to my attention are documented in those posts. Alas, I am too young to have ever had the opportunity to attend a great American Fair. And, sadly, the US has no chance of hosting a small Expo until 2022, or a large Expo until 2025. So, until then we have to hit the road. I have attended the Zaragoza Expo in 2008, and the Shanghai Expo in 2010. I hope to get over to Yeosu in August, work schedule permitting. A friend and I are currently completing a feature-length film about the seeming cultural extinction of World's Fairs in American culture, and the US government's recent history of lackluster, or absolute non, participation in EXPOs. One of the more interesting opportunities we had during filming was traveling to London and meeting with the UK Commerce and Foreign office, and nearly all of the architects and designers selected as finalist for the 2010 UK pavilion. The fairness and good spirited competition of the UK process REALLY serves as a contrast to the US process. Hopefully we can help to turn the process around. It's great to have a contact point with fellow World's Fair fans. When our film is complete we'll figure out a way to share it with everyone. And we are still looking for 16mm motion picture film of Fairs. We have been HD scanning these films as we have located them, and the results have been great. So, if you have any 16mm or 35mm motion film that you would be willing to share for HD telecine, feel free to post a reply and we can get in touch. Best Regards, Jeff
