  1. AIRLINE BAGGAGE FEES

Understandably, "JUST CHAT" allows a wide range of topics to be aired here, including minute details of how the roller coaster at Palisades Park was assembled, the height of the railings on top of The Heliport and other trivia too numerous to mention. Now let's review the latest news about baggage costs as you use air travel to get to New York (the next SIP 2008) or Disney World, Orlando or any other destination for that matter. There's going to be a $15 per bag charge when you check them aboard your flight and that's the same cost for the return trip. Can you imagine FEDEX, UPS or the Post Office adding another $15 per box to ship it anywhere in the USA? You'll revolt and march on Pennsylvania Avenue! So, do this. Calculate the amount you'll need to pay for your baggage (round trip). Go to your bank and ask for an equal amount in rolled coins, preferably nickels and pennies. At the airline counter, pay your baggege fees with rolled coins which of course is legal tender! Imagine a 747 boarding 300 passengers each with two checked bags and it makes you wonder where would they store all of the coinage? How would they manage to move it to the bank? Consider the delays at the counter as planes are held at the gates waiting for passengers to board long after the scheduled departure. Imagine the frustration as airline clerks count the money. They may even require you to write your name and phone number on each roll of coins. Guaranteed, the airlines would soon rethink their new ploy to rake money from your wallet. Join in by circulating this message to everyone you know, letters to the editor, comments on blogs, etc. Tell the airline travellers to quietly protest this robbery by paying in U.S. CURRENCY! Ray Dashner (Building the new Travellers Aid Headquarters).
  2. FINALLY....FOR REAL THIS TIME!

HEY CURTIS !!!!! IT'S ME, RAY DASHNER (pushing to the front of the waiting line). AM I FIRST OR NOT? It's been only two weeks short of SEVEN YEARS that I've been waiting for this. REF: SIP June 2, 2001. Is this a record or what? That's longer than three 1964 / '65 seasons of the NYWF itself! Where do I send the money? Ray
  3. June 22, 2008?

On the same day, three hours apart, we'll have a poolside gathering of West Coast PTU members at my residence in Port Hueneme, CA. Ray, Trey, Craig, Al, Randy, Robert and possibly a few others will meet at poolside here for a picnic lunch and a good old fashioned confab about the New York World's Fair. For any East Coast attendees going to FMPC, please post a cellphone number (or send a number to me at draydar@earthlink.net) so we can call and talk to you while still on your walk through the park. So this time it's East and West PTU gatherings on the same day, but a few hours apart due to the time zones. We should all be here at 10:30 AM Pacific Time. All PTU members west of Denver are invited too! Send an email to me to confirm the date! Ray Dashner
  4. Hello and a Belgian Waffle Recipe

As you all sit down on a nearby park bench enjoying your Belgian Waffle in the Belgian Village, the sound of the carousel fills the air. http://64nywf65.20m.com/newyork%20En.htm "JUST ONE OF THOSE WAFFLES WAS NEVER ENOUGH" Ray Dashner
  5. SiFLA

I will be visting Florida during July, so I'm too late for the SIFLA meet. But I can still reminisce about the first SILA back in December of 2004. You can too! Just click here.... http://www.randytreadway.com/SiLA-December_4_2004.html Ray Dashner
  6. GM FUTURAMA

Just because the General Motors Pavilion was torn down decades ago, it doesn't mean you can't take the ride anymore. Just click here and get aboard! http://www.phrenicea.com/futurama_chip.htm Ray Dashner
  7. Pre-Opening Day tour of Fairgrounds - Sun., April 20

EVEN THOUGH THE TAPES DIDN'T PLAY, I WAS THERE IN SPIRIT! Ray D.
  8. Pre-Opening Day tour of Fairgrounds - Sun., April 20

Jim, I think it's very nice of you to include the soundtracks on your Sunday tour. I originally wanted to do exactly that during the original SIP (June 2, 2001) but the organizers felt that the length of some of the tracks would not hold everybody's attention. You'll have to be selective and use excerpts with emphasis on FUTURAMA II, FORD, JOHNSON WAX, etc. which were often more than 20 minutes in their original presentations. I wish I could be there to once again relive the many great experiences that I discovered at the NYWF! Ray Dashner
  9. Pre-Opening Day tour of Fairgrounds - Sun., April 20

Jim, I hope that you'll have a fun time at FMCP with better weather than the original opening day! Ray
  10. Poll- SiP June 22

Sorry, I can't be there this time. Maybe the next time around, we can all tour FMCP on Segways! Ray D.
  11. Whatever happened?

I'm wondering how many people have been made to pay those fines and serve those jail terms described in the FBI disclaimer! I've never heard of even ONE! I introduced my audio tapes of The Fair early in 2000. Thousands of reproductions have since been in circulation in USA, France, Germany, Thailand, New Zealand, Canada, UK, Netherlands and Samoa. There is no FBI disclaimer. There is a statement of ownership of the copyright of the entity itself. In all these years, no challenge has been made to the fair use of the material, simply because no one can claim that these recordings were made less than twenty five years ago. This last statement was provided to me in a letter from the Library of Congress. WHAT, ME WORRY?? Ray D.
  12. MIA

Hi everybody....YES, PTU IS WHERE YOU'LL FIND ME.......now that my LOGIN is allowed with this new PTU format. For two months of hospital and nursing home time, I was isolated fron using my laptop since these facilities have yet to advance to the real world of providing an IP network. I'm currently attending therapy sessions enabling me to walk now using a four footed cane. The repair to my right leg consists of a metal ball assembly that is cemented into the femur. Learning to walk again is a quite an experience. However, I can still use the Segway to get around as long as the total time is less than 20 minutes, otherwise, the leg pain begins to set in. By June 22, I should be in good shape. Thanks to all of you for your encouraging messages. They've been much appreciated! Ray Dashner
  13. SIP Sunday, June 22, 2008

TO WEST COAST PTU MEMBERS: I know most of you can't attend the meeting of NYWF stalwarts on June 22. I propose that a WEST COAST meeting be held on JUNE 22 so that we can contact those FMCP folks as they trek through the park via cellphone. Same day... two different coasts! My summer residence here in PORT HUENEME, CA has all of the amenities that would make a successful meeting here. There's an enlosed family room complete with kitchen and bar, exercise room, billiards and ping pong tables, heated jacuzzi and swimming pool, barbecue facilities, tables with sun umbrellas, free parking and a free tour of my apartment. Since I was amongst the first of us West Coasters at THE FAIR during April 1964, it seems appropriate that I propose this first joint East and West gathering of NYWF fans. Any number can attend, so bring the whole family. Plan to bring your own picnic basket(s) and beverages. Every attendee will receive a gift of the latest CD-ROM's, VAULT III......General Motors Futurama.....PLUS the rare recorded voices of the original 50 participants of "Saturday In The Park", JUNE 2, 2001. Ray Dashner
  14. Been A While

HI CRAIG, PORT HUENEME IS JUST A 45 MINUTE RIDE FROM MALIBU/SANTA MONICA LINE ON SCENIC PACIFIC COAST HWY. (CA RTE. #1). PLEASE BRING THE UNISPHERE WITH YOU. RAY
