  1. Large US Rubber Ferris wheel promo piece

I think that may have been the world's largest (real) tire.
  2. Several years ago, Mitch at http://64nywf65.20m.com was contacted by a collector who had this Giant Tire Ferris wheel mock-up, made from a real, full-size tire. Unfortunately, contact info can't be found any more. If you have this model, I'd like to talk to you about it for a book I'm writing about the Giant Tire. I might also be interested in purchasing it. Let's talk! Please message me, or email me at GiantTire@Columnist.com
  3. Two NYWF64 survivors

You're close. Yes, a completely new frame was built in 1966 in Allen Park, MI. The original fiberglass panels for the sides and tread were attached to it. New center tread panels were made to take up the space where the Ferris wheel occupied, but not as wide as the original gap.
  4. Large US Rubber Ferris wheel promo piece

Without a doubt, thanks. But I'm more interested in it as a 'relic'. Its really too bad Mitch couldn't find the owner's contact information.
  5. Large US Rubber Ferris wheel promo piece

Just a bump to this thread. Still on the hunt for this mock up, and a new email address if anyone has any leads.... Info@GiantTire.info
  6. Total attendance numbers?

I found documents showing the cumulative attendance totals up to 9/26/1964 and up to 9/7/1965. Does anyone have similar documents that show the totals at the end of each season? (10/18/64 & 10/17/65)
  7. Total attendance numbers?

Here is the first list. The Vatican is on this one, but there are many other pavilions missing.
  8. The Giant Tire book is done!

After 13 months of research and writing, my book is finally done! To order, just go to http://www.GiantTire.info

  10. Uniroyal Giant Tire in the Wild

Wheel cover was changed in 1994
  11. Sometimes people just make me mad

I wonder how many photos were taken from the exact same spot. Looks like this photographer was standing less than a foot from the other. On eBay right now. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Koda-Slide-New-York-Worlds-Fair-1964-Sinclair-Dinosaur-Eggs-NYWF10/372551777849
  12. Sometimes people just make me mad

It's sad, but this photo proves that it's not just the youth of 2018 that engage in senseless acts of vandalism.
  13. U.S. Royal Ferris Wheel...Another Survivor?

Yep, sent an email. Haven't heard back yet, so I figured I try the shotgun method! But in the mean time, does anyone have a copy of the memos Phil was talking about? I'm trying to do my fact checking.
  14. U.S. Royal Ferris Wheel...Another Survivor?

Can someone put me in contact with Mr. Ras?
  15. U.S. Royal Tire Ferris Wheel Toy

I sell replacement 3D printed gondolas now. You can find my listing on eBay. I have been successful fixing these. I am now 4 for 4. I'm still working out how much to charge as a service, but if you are interested, shoot me a message. I have 3D printed signs on eBay too.
  16. Anyone know when they changed the hub caps?

After doing some photo mining, I figured out a few things about the logo change, but I'm saving it for the book!
  17. Homemade Stereo Views

I exchanged messages with the seller on eBay. They confirmed the extremely low quality of the images. So I seems they weren't victims of time, just a bad photographer/camera.
  18. Homemade Stereo Views

The set is up on eBay right now. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=Ethan+P.+Jackman+stereoview&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_osacat=0&_odkw=Ethan+P.+Jackman&LH_TitleDesc=0
  19. Uniroyal Giant Tire in the Wild

Yeah, this photo is from the Detroit News. It was taken when it was just about done being rebuilt at US Rubber's midwest sales office in Allen Park, MI. Notice the crane behind the tire, and the work trucks at the base. They report that the pieces of the tire were moved via rail from New York to Detroit, but when researching for my book, I discovered that ONE person said that in the 1990's and for whatever reason, it stuck. The fact is, it was moved by truck by the Townsend Sign Company. https://www.detroitnews.com/picture-gallery/news/2015/03/17/big-uniroyal-tire-celebrates-50th-anniversary/24863301/ Townsend_Obituary.pdf
  20. They must have been price gouging at the Fair. That same toy cost $2.98 at the tire dealer.
  21. Got room on your bookshelf?

Sounds good! Everyone has to save room for my book too...."The Giant Tire: From New York World's Fair to Detroit's Iconic Landmark" I've collected all sorts of great information and photos (not just from the Fair). Been chasing down lots of different leads. I even spoke to the 90 year old man responsible for getting the toy made, and a very nice lady that worked at the exhibit in 1965! That's actually her in the information booth in the photo Randy posted! I hope to have it out by mid Summer.
  22. TV Remote Control 1956

My wife inherited a Zenith Space Command TV from her great grandfather in 1986. I swear that thing weighed at least 200 pounds. We moved that damn thing from Michigan to two apartments in Florida, and back to Michigan. The 'clicker' was basically just tuning forks inside the handheld gadget. Pressing a button struck a tuning fork. Based on the sound the TV heard, it changed the volume, channel, or power. If you jingled your keys in front of it, it would change volume. Finally got rid of the TV, but I kept the remote! And I've heard about the color converters, but never saw one. Thanks for posting!
  23. While searching old newspaper accounts of the Giant Tire, I came across this article about the Sinclair dinos. I've only ever heard the name Jonas associated with them. Thought this was interesting. I really wish I had a nice copy of the photo the ran in the article. Its not a view you normally see!
