  4. I'm reading "The Dawn of Technicolor" by James Layton & David Pierce and it provides some information about the Technicolor "World's Fair" short by Wilding Picture Productions for Chrysler. It was the first live action short filmed in three strip Technicolor, shot during the last two weeks of the Fair's 1933 season. Presented in theaters starting in April 1934. A black and white version (same footage sans color) was put out as presented by Plymouth. Other research shows the b/w test track footage was originally tinted yellow. Fascinating book if you like that sort of thing-and I do. It's about the two color Technicolor process. Lists all the specs, lots of technical stuff, what film survives, what archive holds the elements, etc. Not a picture book. I got a copy via interlibrary loan through my local library.
  5. Chrysler's "New Dimensions" and the Pennsylvania Railroad's "Thrills for You" (GGIE) fully restored in 3D for your home viewing pleasure, provided you have a 3D Blu-ray player and TV. http://www.3dfilmarchive.com/3-d-rarities also viewable in 2D on a standard Blu player.
  6. Recognize any of these people?

Carol Bruce is the gal in #1. She was starring in a revival of "Show Boat" on Broadway when these pictures were taken. She played Julie, the mulatto.
  7. Recognize any of these people?

    #3 could be Virginia Mayo.
  8. Return of Mustang to the fair

Motorweek TV show did a piece on the anniversary of the Mustang, including one of the original cars from the Fair. The only intact one according to the owner. http://www.motorweek.org/features/over_the_edge/mustang_50th_anniversary/ My father had a 65 Mustang, red hardtop, black interior. During the Great Chicago Blizzard of 1967 we packed 11 kids -first & second graders (and my mother) into that car to drive to school. The only time we ever got a ride to school.
  9. So the woman who wrote the "Don't Bring Back the World's Fair" piece is curating an exhibit about the Panama-Pacific Expo at the Oakland Museum? I can just imagine how that exhibit will portray the Exposition. Fair and balanced, I'm sure.
  10. The Blu-ray release of the film is delayed (rights issues with the estate of the author of the original book it sounds like) the Jerome Kern scored soundtrack is being given an official release this September-http://kritzerland.com/cent_summer.htm
  11. Where's the Fair? film

There's another film project in this vein, Mina Chow's "Face of a Nation: What Happened at the World's Fair" "A 1st generation Chinese-American architect asks why we no longer care about World's Fairs when once they captured our hopes for the American dream?" She's in the fundraising stage. http://www.faceofanationmovie.com/#!/home here's a radio interview with Chow and others: http://www.kcrw.com/news-culture/shows/which-way-la/do-libraries-really-matter#seg-the-shanghai-expo-and-americas-economic-decline
  12. The first episode ends with the 1876 Exhibition, about 24 minutes in. http://www.historyofphilly.com/media/#http%3A%2F%2Fi.historyofphilly.portalbounce.com%2Fen%2Fuser-media.html%3Fv%3D764

  14. Where's the Fair? film

Anyone know anything about this film? The guy who made it posted here a few times. The film has been shown at a few film festivals per their website: http://www.wheresthefair.com/ There's a review of the film that gives it four stars and a trailer for the film that is, uh, well, I'm not sure what it is-sinister? accusatory? Any thoughts? http://www.filmthreat.com/reviews/68697/
  15. "The Big Show" is scheduled for the Encore Western channel Monday July 21 at 10:05 pm CST.
