  1. NYS Design Winners

Around a week or so, Long Island Newsday had an article with the 6 winners to redesign the NYS. I'm unable to send it. Perhaps someone else can help with the link?
  2. US Open

the park looks great, I guess because the USTA is asking it to. For anyone who has DirecTv, tune to ch 701. They show all the matches on one screen with a very realistic unisphere spinning with the fountains on. While the fountains are on, park police are standing by to keep kids out. Wasn't that way a few weeks ago. WPIX TV did a live remote on the news during the heat wave in front of the unisphere and it looked like a public pool. So sad.

  4. Intended... Darn spell check! Even though was number one this weekend, sales were not what Disney expected.
  5. Agreed...for all the hype, 2-3 minutes of NYWF was a disappointment, although they did a great job recreating the experience for the "young people", no pun attended.
  6. NYSP to get a major paint job

Awesome news. A great training exercise. One needs to wonder if it needs to be covered, more than likely lead based paint will be blasted off.
  7. grafitti

The astro tower was big in the news just close to two years ago, ( also opened in 64 or late63) when it closed Coney Island July 4th weekend due to swaying and had to be dismantled. Amazing a NYC station doesn't know the difference. Let's pray that NYS doesn't have the same fate.
  8. The Unisphere Public Pool

amazing... Last year during the US Open there had to be over 50 park rangers warning everyone to stay out, including signs on all lightposts. I guess they want the fountains empty so that CBS can use as a backdrop. What a shame. Only a matter of time before someone gets hurt on a nozzle and there goes $$$$$$ down the drain.
  9. NYSP paint day

does anyone know why, when a few 2 years ago, they did not at least attempt a coat of paint on the towers? They had all the inferstructure in place to hit all the "hard places". At one time the parks dept had no problem hanging their emblem up there. Now it is just rusted over.
  10. unisphere fountains

was at the park today, the entire reflecting pool around the unisphere is fenced over. A sign states that they are sealing leaks, replacing water mains, nozzles, and drains. Work to be completed by summer 2010. Sad to see kids hopping the fence to skateboard in the pool.
  11. A Lot Forgotten In 45 Years

I saw this also, Gary Thorne called it a resterant from the past called "Terrace on the park", then went on to say he wondered why it was still standing. Sad that nobody corrected him
  12. Mosiac Of Nys

the NYS pavillion mosiac at the enterence to the park from The LIRR was being repaired while I was visiting the park yesterday for USTA business. Perhaps the only part of the park that I saw clean and workers sprucing up.
